THE REALLY USEFUL PAGE - CLEANING TIPS!

Dirty Microwave: Bowl with 66% water, 33% white vinegar. Full power for 5 mins & wipe off.


Burnt saucepan contents: Put Cola into the pan, enough to cover burn. Boil for 5 mins. Repeat if necessary.


Dirty TV: Bowl with water, 2 to 3 drops meths. Dampen cloth, wipe off. For screen, bowl of water, half a small cap of fabric softner (its antistatic). Will prevent quick dust build up.


Carpet Smells: sprinkle dry baking powder on. Then, if you like, sprinkle crushed, dried rosemary & lavender on. Leave for 15 mins and vac off.


Crayon off painted or hard surfaces: Spray on and wipe off with Hair Spray. No good on wallpaper though.


Smelly Ashtrays: Clean out first. Then a thin layer of Bicarbonate of Soda. This will eliminate the smells, AND, when a hot cigarette touches it, it produces carbon dioxide, thus fully extinguishing the old fag.


Dirty Shower Curtain: Put in washing machine, on a gentle wool wash, using a biological powder. Put two old towels in with it to give an abrasive action. Perhaps put some Oxy bleach in too.


Dirty Glass Vases: Put about quarter inch of uncooked rice in the bottom of the vase. Add some white vinegar and give it a good shake. Voila.


Solid Silver: Dampen a cloth in warm water and add WHITE toothpaste. Rub vigorously and rinse thoroughly. Do NOT use on silver plate.


Brass: Rub vigorously with Tomato Ketchup. Rinse thoroughly.


Ceramic Tiles: (As on a fireplace) Make a paste of lemon juice and salt & then scrub. Rinse off.


Household Bins: Wipe out inside with a T Tree oil impregnated cloth. Smells nice and is antibacterial.


Toilet Bowl: Clean with a nylon scourer/ toothbrush and salt as an abrasive. OR, make a paste of equal parts of lemon juice and Borax powder. For overnight cleaning, drop an Alka Seltzer or Denture Cleaning tablet in the bowl.


Household Odours: Make up a liquid of 2 cups of water, 2 caps of lemon juice and 2 teaspoons of bicarbonate of soda. Put this into a sprayer.


Greasy Hands: Mix washing up liquid with sugar. Use as a soap.


Sink, sluggish or partially blocked U bend: Pour 2oz salt down plug hole. Then 2oz Borax powder, and then 2oz of white vinegar. Then pour down a whole kettle of boiling water.


Dusting small items (Ornaments etc): Put a small bit of an old pair of tights over your vacuum nozzle, held in place by an elastic band & vac away the dust.


Smelly Cushions: Massage into the materiel Bicarbonate of Soda, leave for while and then vac off. To now add a nice smell, make up a small bowl of crushed pot pourri, Place on the cushion surface for as long as possible and then shake off.


Glass/Crystal items (Chandalier): Wash first with warm soapy water. Put a teaspoon of ammonia in some warm water, dampen a cloth in it and wipe down. Puts a lovely shine on it.
